When Little Girls Conquer AI
The future of AI Generation lies in the purity, love, kindness, curiosity of 5-year olds
Wondering
What does the future hold for AI? How will it affect the next generations of very young people, like those who are now in the kindergarten? Let’s call them the AI Generation, as they are born when AI has just taken off since 2022. Will they become the master of AI and conquer the tech to survive and thrive or become a slave of it and be trampled by it. Most parents that I talked to favor the former, not the latter. I won’t go much into the philosophical nor technical debates for and against this, but one thing that the AI generation can teach AI and not easily replaced by AI — at least for a forseeable future — is this: the purity, love, kindness and curiosity like that of a 5-year old.
Imagining
So how would the AI Generation look like? What would they do in their spare time or at school? I am tinkering with a vision of the future where these kids would wear advanced helmet and they tinker creatively with gadgets for AI, they look futuristic, they are hopeful, and exist in an utopian world. They would have access to lots of socio-technical and cultural resources to help them do what they do in the age of AI. One of their school assignments is to create the next version of bots, robots, or general AI that can help them do their homework. What their teachers would evaluate is not the homework per se but the process — the bots, robots, or general AI tools — that they create.
Visualizing
But how would they look like? Using Midjourney — one of my favorite visual AI tools — and using the Discord interface, I prompted Midjourney to produce several images of this AI generation and tweak for variations. Key to my prompt was these lexical items:
/imagine prompt beautiful 5 year old girl, utopia, sitting on a desk, fixing a gadget with plenty of tools, wearing helmet, glowing eyes, futuristic
(Tips: No worries, I won’t sell this prompt as I do not intend to make money with it. You can if you want, and some prompt engineers have done that for months. The results look like these).
I am displaying only several out of the many variations that are made possible by this visual AI tech.
I added a few more to add more fun to it.
What I have not done is to use the real photo of a particular person and customize it to my visual AI output. That’s possible to do, but maybe save it for next time.
Epilogue
We barely scratch the surface in knowing what the future holds for AI and its implications for the AI Generation. We are hopeful and pray that the AI Generation can be what they imagine what they want to be. But with these gentle beings’ glowing and hopeful eyes, curiosity, love, and kindness, they would thrive in a world no matter whether AI rules the world or not. Aren’t they all lovely, you think?
